Faeries Vs. Angels

To become an oil painting soon!
The part of this series that you can’t see, is the part where I am imagining that I am the artist who is summoned to fill the walls and ceilings of a secret palace where money is no object and, like the mighty Jean-Honoré Fragonard with his private patrons, I realize that very few people will see this art so it gains that magical quality of a secret treasure.
I really love the art of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and have long dreamt of having an opportunity to create something really huge and magnificent, like much of his work. I’ll probably have to hire models for the foreshortening of people sitting on clouds for the ceiling paintings but heck, money is no object and one of my fantasys is to emulate Raphael who legend states would throw gold coins to his models to encourage them to stay in their pose for as long as humanly possible.
Angels tend to be associated with religion and faeries with folklore and while a majority of people do or have believed in them at one time or another, they don’t necessarily believe in both of them at the same time! Sometimes people are quite polarized on which of these two they believe in (which has to be pretty funny to those who believe in neither) and while I’m not here to take sides I am curious as to what you all think on this pressing topic!
Consider it a reality show, Angels Vs. Faeries - which side are you hoping will ‘win’ and what contests would you have them undertake?

I absolutely believe in both; or, more to the point, I believe that they are the same beings that we’ve given different names to.
I’ve been a model and I’m here to tell you that gold coins wouldn’t work on me. I was amazed how hard it was to hold a pose - especially one that required any amount of strength to maintain - for as long as was required, and I’m a pretty strong, flexible woman….

I’m glad to be here!
I’ve read what you wrote in http://www.flickr.com/photos/gobzine/113371528/
and I must say your passion for art is moving, very very inspiring. respect!
I grew up believing in angels. Maybe religion has something to do with it. I’ve read about fairies but even as a kid, I sort of believe that they don’t really exists —which is funny because at the same time I believed that dwarfs / elves do existed.

I believe in the worlds that we do not see with our eyes. Why wouldn’t they both be here? Then again? The Irish fairies, which can be mean and contrary, or sweet angelic fairies who twitter about. Daz, your fairies always remind me of heavenly fairies and not the irish fairies, so I think they are more angelic. Your fairies don’t seem to have a bitter streak.

thanks guys!
Chili - everyone has a price to maintain that pose just a little longer! Once that adrenaline kicks in you can last a few minutes longer! hehe!
Enya - I believe that all the legends and myths exist in some dimension out there and when you believe in them they are allowed to pop into your world!
Wendi - It’s not that I don’t believe in mean faeries, it’s just that I choose not to acknowledge their bad behavior by memorializing them in my art!

These are some pretty sexy fairies, Darren.
Unfortunately, fairies are not thought of in the same vein as angels because of the religious connotations of the word “angel.” I heard that when formal schooling came to Ireland the belief in fairies diminished. I think I read that in the White Goddess. I will have to look it up.
Interesting that you are speaking of fairies. I have a little post coming out about something of that vein. We must be on the same wavelength.
