Red Dragon from painting to graphic design
This an oil painting I did a year or so ago. It started as a charcoal sketch on the canvas then layers of oil glazes were added. Oil glazes are translucent and refract light so the effect is a deep rich color!
Then after scanning the painting into Photoshop I chopped it up, duplicated parts and mirrored parts!
I finally settled on this version below as my favorite 99daz red dragon graphic!
and here’s the original charcoal sketch on the canvas! no prepatory sketches for this one, in fact, I haven’t done a prepatory sketch for any painting. I find that being spontanious on the canvas is a more satisfying process.

You’re right, those oil glazes have created a beautiful richness and with the green complimentary background, that makes for one good looking dragon!

I loved this painting when I saw it on flickr — I really like the sketch, too, it has a very Celtic feel. Would love to see a version of it in metal for jewelry.

Daz,
I thought I left a comment the last time I camt to look at this red dragon. I must not have hit send. That’s what I get for trying to comment late at night. I love the richness of the vibrant red. When my son Michael was younger I wrote a children’s story called Michael and the Dragon. That would have made a perfect dragon for it.
