Relax, it’s just tv!!!

Art Blog by Darren Cox aka Daz

I used to be one of those people who bought into the whole punk rock idea of smashing your tv because it was a evil lizard-man controlled corporate propaganda tool that rotted your brain and etc etc blah blah blah., but now I’m older and extremely un-cool and apathetic and enjoy the shows Chuck, Fringe, Heroes and can’t wait for next season of Lost!

I still don’t like paying a cable bill though so it’s with great pleasure that I watch these shows in perfect 100% High Definition for free from the broadcasters! Take that evil lizard men! You can rip up your cable bill too and even move your tv to somewhere away from that umbilical chord coming out of the wall if you have an HDTV.

Don’t give up on tv! it’s cheap entertainment and gives people something in common that is pleasurable.

Remember that local HD (high definition) programming is free, all you need is a HD tv (NOT a tv that says "HD monitor") and that ancient old ‘rabbit ear’ antenna from 1973 gathering dust in the garage.

This is a great time for tv shows, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and Fox all have plenty of crystal clear HD shows broadcasted for free, and in bigger markets there are dozens and dozens of free HD channels and this is just the beginning.

My favorite shows are shown in HD such as Chuck and Lost so why pay 50$ a month for a digital cable box when you can get some of the best shows and local news for free?

There is no need to hook your new HD set to the roof antenna or even to buy a fancy motorized "HD booster" antenna either. You could pretty much jam a fork into the coax input in the back of your HDTV and pick up perfect HD shows.

Also, don’t pay extra for a 1080p set unless you have a blu-ray player or a high end video game system as tv shows are not broadcast in 1080p yet and have no plans to be in the near future.

Spend your entertainment dollars on the best tv (AND always always an extended warranty) you can afford instead of paying 50-100 dollars a month for digital cable (that’s 600-1200 bucks more tv you can get if your favorite tv shows are on PBS, ABC,NBC,Fox and CBS for example!!!!).

Sharp, Hitachi and Toshiba (maybe others too) all have customer service offices in the midwest with English (and Spanish) speaking American citizens who get paid to help you set up your new tv, so use that free service, (or just call with pre-sales and HD questions, it’s always 100% free to call).

The HD you get for free is exactly 100% the same as what you would pay for with an HD cable or satellite box.

Check http://www.antennaweb.org to see what free local definition programming is available where you live.

Yes, you will not get all the cool tv shows for free, no Disney Channel, but you do get a whole lot of them, Fringe, Heros etc and you will never have to deal with the cable company. One less bill baby!!!

I don’t watch enough tv to justify the price of an HD cable subscription, especially now that I can see so much free content on the net on places such as www.hulu.com, but it’s a definite pleasure to see half a dozen really quality shows in HD for free each week!

There, I just saved you some money! Now be happy and love your neighbor!

and here’s something else you can do, make cool art like the mighty Jane Belcastro does! This is a silkscreen from the late 1980′s by Jane-o-la – my favorite artist!

  1. Chuck makes me smile EVERY TIME. I don’t watch much t.v., but I do enjoy, very much, the shows I take the time for.
