The Death of The Shadow Puppeteer

The Shadow Puppeteer Dies

This is a digital painting I made in Photoshop a few years ago. The liquify filter has a smudge finger tool that you can push the pixels around until they look just right as fitting your artistic sensibility!

I started with the colors and the frame and then randomly smooshed the pixels around, suddenly it reminded me of an old piece of film and the idea of a film of shadow puppet show came to my mind. Imagine that if all was left of you was a film of shadow puppet show and the shapes made by your fingers were the last remaining evidence of your life.

  1. Hi Darren,

What a creative piece of art. It’s hard to believe it’s a product of Photoshop.

    Thanks for sharing!

  2. so is that actually framed or in the computer still? It is hard to see where it ends. It is really cool, very disturbing and very Dali, but very cool.

  3. Thanks Barb! An artist can turn a tool into a way to make art!

Hi Kelli, thanks, the whole image you see is a digital file, I would suggest that if it was to be printed and framed that the owner would consider the frame as an personal extension of the piece.

BTW to the world in general, if you want to print out a copy of any of these digital works (I have several on my Flickr site like this) I have most of the original photoshop files which are generally huge so a good quality print can be obtained, just send me a nice email and I’ll see if I can find the file for you!

AND…last night after a walk on the beach at sunset I was inspired to sketch what I saw and randomly chose photoshop to sketch the picture swirling in my mind and it turned into another random liquify filter picture only about a hundred times more detailed, I worked on it for hours- anyway, you’ll see it soon hehe!!

  4. I like this one almost as much as the color one! These are definitely a good fit with you!
