The Dragon of Apathy must die!
99daz.com the fine art blog of Peoria Illinois Artist Darren Cox aka Daz
Dragon Battle oil painting on canvas with heroic heroine and her brave horse. This is getting nice and deep with the layers of oil glazes.
When it’s done the light will be almost spotlighting the girl and her brave steed, leaving the rest of the painting in smoky shadow as they fight the embodiment of negativity! The idea is to increase the drama of the narrative.
I fight against my own apathy, we all do, and this is what this painting is telling me.
Sometimes I think I should just be ‘sensible’ and not get my hopes up thinking I’ll become some variation of famous but then I think of the cool artists that give me a reason to live and not just survive. Paul Gauguin, he could have stayed a stockbroker, done his art in his spare time, been frugal and perhaps retired early to be a full time artist, but he didn’t.
Same with Vincent Van Gogh, he could have been a janitor in a church, done God’s work while he supported himself, but he didn’t, and all these years later the idea of a tortured starving artist genius survives, giving us something to think about, a strange option, some tangiable brilliant alternative to sensible …
The more I learn about quantum physics and spirituality, the more important it seems to be to struggle against great odds, struggle but not ‘win at any cost’. The idea isn’t to win, it’s to fight against losing….

This one brings to mind so many fellow humans who have “snakes in their heads”, that is what me and mine call those who have toxic issues. This girl is trying to abolish said snakes, i think…go her!I love it! Only, mildly violent because she is doing humanity a favor.Again, you rock, Daz!

Daz,
It’s late at night, for me anyway,so disreguard this if it seems like babbling, but I have lately been getting this thought when I come here. As much as your art is outstanding and amazing, your thoughts and words are equally as profound and interesting too.
I have been imagining a Beautiful Darren Daz Cox Art book complete with commentary and stories and wonderful fairies and delightful woodland creatures and spiritual thoughts and wonderings and complex quantim physics the Daz way all rolled into one. Not an E-book but a wonder of magic that could sit on a table and draw someone into the wonderful world of Daz. A place many of us would like to relax in at the end of the day.

Thanks Pamster!
Hi Wendi, I’m actually putting together a book with the booksmart software. I’m not sure how it will turn out but I do love the idea of combining things into a book! In the mean time my zine should be ready soon!

Hi Darren,
I think your art would look great in a book. I am looking forward to seeing the dragon painting finished. The snake is so big it represents struggle well and the girl and her house are so small against the snake making her fight with all the determination she has. This represents personal struggles of life well.
