yea for Dana Lee – awesome artist!
One of the best artists ever in the entire history of art is Dana Lee, her website is http://dollsandmagic.com
See, i draw the female figure but I’m not a female, but in my humble opinion when a female draws females there is an extra element of honesty and sometimes that makes all the difference.
We all love Pierre Renoir and his idealized portraits of women and girls, and Edgar Degas with his dancers but regardless of how ‘pure’ their intentions, their art is still more a perception rather than an abstraction of the self. Oh sure, Leonardo’s Mona Lisa might be a ‘self portrait as a woman’ but it doesn’t hold a candle, in my opinion, to artists such as Elisabeth louise vigee-lebrun who didn’t have to look outside herself to know what femine beauty meant.
Here is an example of the lovely art by Dana Lee, I hope you are inspired as much as I am!

There is something amazing in this little watercolor that really is magic in the purest sense.
I drew the sketch below today at work as an idea for my new painting called "Frolic like you are a wish thing in the wind" (wish things are the seeds that you blow out of a dandelion or other flowers that turn into puffs of seeds and the phrase was coined by another awesome artist, Cathy Dailey ).
The concept of the new painting, as if it is not obvious, is to visually capture that feeling of being in the spring breeze just floating in the moment, free and joyful. I chose to draw a faerie as they would be the lightest and most prone to feeling like wish things. The painting may not end up as a nude but it’s easier to draw nudes than draw drapery at this point for me.

I still have a dozen canvases in progress and photograph them soon!
Oh and there are always exceptions to the rule, just look at Paul Gauguin’s Breton Girls Dancing
I think he transcended his physical self to really capture the joy of the moment. Even the little dog is happy…
…and by the way, it’s just art, people are far more valuable than art, so be nice to them ok?
—update 4 hrs later!—- I painted the fairy I drew today! It still has a lot to go but I figured I show y’all the process!

I really enjoyed the original pencil sketch. Very whimsical as always. Did you use the golden spiral?
Have you seen any green fairies lately?
